Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 1 lb chuck boneless beef cubes
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • teaspoons cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • teaspoons vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil or other oil
  • a dash black pepper
  • teaspoons sesame seeds
  • 1 green onion top sliced
  • 2 cups long-grain white rice

Equipment

  • Grill or barbecue
  • heavy skillet
  • Large container with lid
  • Saucepan or rice cooker

Method

  1. In a large container, mix soy sauce, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, vinegar, sesame oil, black pepper, and sesame seeds. Add beef cubes, coat well, cover, and refrigerate overnight or at least 8 hours.
  2. To cook, heat a grill to high or a heavy skillet until screaming hot. Cook marinated beef cubes for 1 minute per side on the grill or 2 minutes per side in the skillet until caramelized.
  3. While the beef cooks, fry the sliced green onion tops in the same pan and add any remaining marinade for extra sauce.
  4. Meanwhile, cook the rice according to package directions.
  5. Serve the sizzling beef and sauce over the cooked rice, garnishing with extra sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

Overnight marinating is essential for tender, flavorful beef; do not skip.
