Servings: 6 servings
Course: Main Course
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • pounds ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons grated onions
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon dried marjoram crushed
  • teaspoon pepper
  • 1 envelope mushroom gravy mix 2-ounce
  • 1 can sliced mushrooms 3-4 ounce, drained
  • 2 tablespoons red wine optional

Equipment

  • broiler pan
  • Baking sheet
  • foil
  • Large bowl
  • Saucepan

Method

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, grated onions, salt, dried marjoram, and pepper. Mix thoroughly but gently to avoid tough patties.
  2. Divide the mixture into six equal portions and shape into oval patties about ¾-inch thick.
  3. Preheat the broiler and position the oven rack so patties will be about 3 inches from the heat source.
  4. Place patties on a broiler pan or foil-lined baking sheet and broil for 3-4 minutes on the first side.
  5. Flip patties and broil for another 4 minutes or until cooked to your liking.
  6. While the patties are broiling, prepare the mushroom gravy mix according to package directions in a saucepan.
  7. Stir in the drained canned mushrooms and red wine (if using) into the prepared gravy.
  8. Pour the hot mushroom gravy over the broiled Salisbury steak patties and serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, use an 80/20 ground beef blend for optimal juiciness and don't skip the marjoram for its unique herbal depth.
